National Junior Honor Society

OLV is proud to sponsor a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.   Students in grade 6 who have maintained an average of at least 88 are invited to apply for admission to the  National Junior Honor Society.  Of those students, those with exceptional community and school service are accepted by the OLV faculty selection committee for admission to the Honor Society while in the seventh and eighth grades at OLV.  Members of the Honor Society must maintain an acceptable grade point average and perform a minimum of community service.  Some activities which the National Junior Honor Society students sponsor include a blood drive and bread sale.

Nature's Classroom

Every year, the 6th grade class heads to Nature's Classroom for a week long, once of a lifetime experience!   Check out for more information on this unique class trip!

Student Council

The OLV Student Council represents all grade levels in the OLV community with the aid of a faculty advisor.  Students in grades 5 through 8 represent classes from Kindergarten through eighth grade.  Student Council members sponsor various activities throughout the school year including socials, dances, dress down days and the annual "adopt a family" outreach at Christmas.

Student Activities

Our Lady of the Valley offers great opportunities for boys and girls to strengthen their character and leadership by participating in activities outside of the classroom.  There are a variety of extracurricular activities in athletics, academic and student organizations, including National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Chorus and Math Club.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination (DI) is an exciting program offered at OLV.   Destination Imagination is an international program that builds student creativity and problem solving abilities in fun and meaningful ways.  Each DI group is comprised of a select team of 5-7 students.  Using criticial thinking skills and personal talents, the team works together to solve a team challenge over a 12 -16 week period.  Every challenge is designed with an educational focus and is solvable in many ways and on many levels.  Destination Imagination teams share their team challenge results in a national tournament.   For more information, check out

Students in grades 2 through 8 are eligible to participate in OLV's coeducational chorus.  The chorus meets weekly after school during certain periods of the school year in preparation for concerts performed for the school community.

Community Service

We are proud of our polite, well-behaved and socially conscious students.  Our Lady of the Valley fosters responsibility and awareness of others by service to school and community.  By word and example, OLV students are involved in many volunteer projects-----locally, nationally and internationally, including Katrina relief efforts, Uxbridge Support our Troops, St. Jude's Math-a-thon, adopting students through the Haitian Apostolate Ministry, sending school supplies to Haiti and our St. Francis-OLV connection (read more about this unique relationship!).
The St. Francis Connection

When Sr. Carol, Principal of the St. Francis School in Greenwood, Mississippi, came to speak at the Holy Angels Parish in Upton, MA, she could not have realized the impact it would have on her school. She came to speak about the needs of the St. Francis School which is located in an area that has been impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Despite many challenges, the children and teachers at St. Francis are thriving and have found a friend in OLV.  Mrs. Joyce Moquin, OLV's 4th grade teacher and a Holy Angels parishoner, heard Sr. Carol speak. They established a friendship which has taught the students of OLV about friendship and giving first hand.

There have been several outreach efforts to St. Francis over the past year. It began with the Jr. Honor Society’s effort to collect 120 sets of math flash cards for a Math-a-thon at St. Francis. The collection effort resulted in a generous donation from an Upton resident of 100 new beanie babies which were attached with prayers and sent to St. Francis.  A Red Sox "dress down" day fundraiser raised $180 which enabled St. Francis to purchase a set of Childcraft reference books for their library. Check out the pictures St. Francis sent of the children with the books!

Sr. Carol recently requested pictures of snow since her students have never seen it. Hard to believe when you live in New England. During Catholic Schools Week, classes worked together to compile photos of snow scenes, letters and drawings to send to our friends at St. Francis.  The connection with St. Francis is special and one we hope will continue for a long time!
