Technology News and General Information

I thought I should share some of the exciting learning that has been happening in our computer lab!  Our younger grades have been working hard on their keyboarding skills.  I am confident the new Type to Learn 4 program will help them learn to type more efficiently.  More information on this program will be coming your way shortly.  In addition, stories are often read and students are asked to perform various assignments using the computer linking technology to classroom learning.  My third graders recently read: Larry Gets Lost in Boston by John Skewes.   They learned about many different landmarks but had to choose their favorite Boston landmark and search for important facts.  It was a wonderful project as it provided support to content-area instruction happening in the classroom.  My fourth, fifth, and sixth graders successfully completed their first web quest projects!  Fourth grade had to research an endangered animal and create a PowerPoint presentation to share with the class.  Fifth grade had to explore an ecosystem and create an imagination story using Microsoft Word.  Sixth grade had a chance to show me what they had learned about Ancient Egyptian culture by researching facts, keeping a journal, and creating a PowerPoint telling about their role as a Historian or Artist.  I am so proud of them! They did an amazing job!

Keyboarding is an essential skill that students must develop in order to use computers effectively and efficiently. For extra practice- our new software is available to download to your home computer:

Follow instructions for: "Web (School to Home)"  Account Number- 152158

Students were given their usernames and passwords during class time.  I will provide a master list for each classroom teacher should a student forget their username or password.

Have fun practicing!
